Motivational Quotes To Get You Through Your Workout

The difference between try and triumph is a little “umph.” But sometimes for us to triumph at the gym, we need a little motivation.

The good news is that a lot of successful people have offered sage advice to inspire us and now we’ve collected our favorite inspirational quotes in one spot. We’ve broken down the workout routine into four phases, so use the wise words below to get you through each stage and onto success.

Getting Motivated

Before getting in shape, you have to get motivated. The gym is not the most comfortable place for us to be -- lifting heavy things, fighting through pain and getting sweaty -- but we know that can lead to becoming a better person. Motivation is what starts the engine to get you on the road to success.

“The hardest lift is lifting your ass off the couch.” -- Anonymous

“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.” -- Thomas Jefferson

“The way to get started is to quit talking and to start doing.” -- Walt Disney

“We generate fears while we sit. We overcome them by action.” -- Dr. Henry Link

“Get going. Move forward. Aim high. Plan a takeoff. Don't just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won't happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude.” -- Donald J. Trump

Doing The Hard Work

As they say: there is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs. While some people believe that the successful are just “born that way” or are “lucky,” the truth is that success comes from discipline and habits. The people who train the hardest and dedicate themselves the most will see the greatest results. Luck, talent and natural gifts are a factor, but hard work is what is required to get to success.

“Motivation gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” -- Jim Rohn

"Your love for what you do and willingness to push yourself where others aren't prepared to go is what will make you great." -- Laurence Shahlaei

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and results.” -- Unknown

“Life does not get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient.” -- Steve Maraboli

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” -- Aristotle

When You Feel Like Quitting

Many of us quit long before we should. It’s a constant battle between mind and body, because we’re pushing the body’s physical limits. It’s natural for us to feel more comfortable on a couch connected to an Xbox or Netflix, but pushing yourself at the gym is what delivers results. When your mind says “hey buddy, let’s go home” but you push through because you know you have more to give, that will bring you closer to success.

“If you quit on the process, you are quitting on the result.” -- Idowu Koyenikan,

“The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides the champion from someone else who is not a champion.”  -- Arnold Schwarzenegger

“I already know what giving up feels like. I want to know what happens if I don’t.” -- Neila Ray

“I never said it would be easy. Giving up is easy.” -- Maria V. Snyder

“There is much more joy in being a survivor than been a quitter.” -- Omoakhuana Anthonia

Enjoy The Reward

The reward is the best part. You’re sweating, you’re tired and you’re hungry, but you’re proud of what you’ve accomplished. It’s always such a high. And the more you do it, the more you feel your body change and the more you see the results. There are few feelings that are better than that.

“One of the greatest moments in life is realizing that two weeks ago, your body couldn’t do what it did today” -- Anonymous

“You’re going to have to let it hurt. Let it suck. The harder you work, the better you will look. Your appearance isn’t parallel to how heavy you lift, it’s parallel to how hard you work.” -- Joe Manganiello,

“Effort only releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.” -- Napoleon Hill

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” -- Henry David Thoreau

“The journey is the reward.” -- Chinese proverb
